Birmingham Fire Door Services FAQs

How often do fire doors need checking in Birmingham?

In buildings above 11m, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 require quarterly checks of communal fire doors and annual (best-endeavours) checks of flat entrance doors. Ark carries out FDIS-accredited fire door inspections across Birmingham and the West Midlands and logs each one digitally, so you can evidence compliance on demand.

Do you install fire doors in occupied buildings across Birmingham?

Yes. Much of our Birmingham fire door work is flat-entrance and communal-door replacement in occupied residential and live commercial buildings. We plan around access, work in phases where needed, and keep disruption to a minimum – with clean finishes and a digital record for every door.

What's the difference between a certified fire door and a certified installation?

A fire door only holds its FD30 or FD60 rating if the whole assembly – leaf, frame, seals, hinges, closer and ironmongery – is installed exactly as tested. A certified door fitted incorrectly is no longer compliant, which is why every Birmingham installation is carried out by certified engineers and fully documented.

Who is responsible for fire door compliance in a Birmingham building?

The Responsible Person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – usually the building owner, manager or employer – is legally accountable for fire doors. Ark provides the certified installation, inspection and records a Responsible Person needs to demonstrate compliance.

How quickly can Ark attend a fire door job in Birmingham?

Ark has a Birmingham base (0121 803 9262) and engineers across the West Midlands, so we can attend surveys, installations and urgent repairs quickly. Get in touch for a fire door quote and we’ll arrange a visit to suit your programme.
