Access arrangements vary between high-street stores, retail parks and managed shopping centres. For retail-park locations, parking is booked in advance and the required vehicle and operative details are provided. Deliveries are coordinated through designated loading bays, with drivers given clear instructions on the correct entrance, permitted vehicle type and delivery window. For shopping-centre stores, Ark liaises with the centre management team to obtain permits to work before attending. Operatives also complete the relevant store or centre induction, including fire and emergency procedures. This preparation prevents avoidable delays and supports compliance with both Next’s and the landlord’s requirements.
Ark’s national logistics capability maintains service across remote and difficult-to-access locations. For a project replacing 12 fire doors at a high-street store on the Isle of Man, site restrictions prevented articulated delivery vehicles from accessing the location. Ark developed an alternative delivery plan, loading the doors into one of its own suitable vehicles and transporting them by ferry. This gave direct control over the final stage of delivery and allowed the works to proceed within the agreed programme.
Next allocates and monitors work through its contractor platform. All operatives receive specific training in the system and in Next’s documentation requirements, helping them submit complete and consistent information first time. Photographs, completed forms and quality records are also captured within Onetrace, providing an auditable record of each installation or repair.
Next requires an Authorities Worksheet to be completed, signed, photographed and uploaded. Ark configured a dedicated mandatory field within the Onetrace workflow for Next projects, so a job cannot be closed until the signed form has been uploaded. This simple digital control reduces missing documentation, avoids follow-up administration and makes completed records easier for Next’s team to review.
